The Things On Which We Sent Event
My husband and I consider letterboxing "our thing" so when we decided to go to the Smokey Mountains this past weekend, we committed ourselves to spend one day of our trip letterboxing. When looking for letterboxes in the area about a month ago, when we were planning our trip, it was pure coincidence that a letterboxing event was being held just 30 minutes away from where we were staying! We (in particular me) were excited about the opportunity to meet some new people that don't live in our area.
We are very fortunate to live where we live and to have the letterboxers, our friends, that live near us. Going to events is my favorite part of the hobby, and if I hadn't discovered events, I probably wouldn't have kept letterboxing. Going to events makes letterboxing feel more like a community. The opportunity to meet more people sounded great to me!
The event was also a great opportunity to bring some old stamps out of the box to share with new boxers! I brought two old stamps, and a new event stamp, and carved a new stamp just for this event. The two older ones I was reusing were "The King and Queen of Hearts <3," which I brought to the Gargoyle Preserve at the Cozy Cove event in April of this past year, and "C is for Cardinals," which I brought to the Night 'boxing: Camping from A-to-Z event held in February of this past year. The event stamp is the new HHH that I'm bringing with me to events, and the last stamp is called Adventurous Acorn Visits TN.
The AdventurousAcorn visits TN stamp was hidden in a box on the tail of a wooden owl post at the event. The box is just an easter egg spray-painted copper with twine wrapped around the bottom to be hung like an acorn ornament, but the box has a deeper meaning than I got to share with everyone. This little acorn ornament was actually used as a letterbox holder at my first event, Letterboxing Psychology 101, but was originally made for my wedding. We hung them from trees and around the wedding reception area.
We arrived a little early to the event. We were able to walk around a bit and get some cool photos. The event location was in a holler with a little creek flowing through it. The trees were so lovely, and the temperature warmed up to be perfect by late morning. The main trail was on a trail that RDHG, the event's host, called the Waterfall Trail. The end of the trail had a little 4' waterfall that was quite beautiful. The stamps were right where the clues led us, and the event was a success!
I hadn't thought about it, but there are a lot of things on which we sit!
The other trail was the Owl Trail, and that trail is steep and takes you to the Mountains Summit. The trees on this trail were showing off their fall colors, and the environment was so beautiful, that Dylan and I just hung out there for a while enjoying the environment.
While at this event, I should mention that I filled up my fourth logbook and began working on my fifth. I'll go into more detail in another post on my fourth logbook but want to note that my fifth logbook of all time is also my third logbook of this year! That's a lot of stamps(!)
Great job to RDHG on this event. I had so much fun and look forward to the next of her events in 2024! I'm posting a few of the photos I took on the trails and at the event headquarters below.
